First Hospital Engineering Forum in Rastatt unites architects, engineers and medical device experts
The Hospital Engineering Forum is a scientific program focused on case studies, research and important topics in the world of clinical engineering and planning. The event on September 28 – 29, 2015 brought together more than 100 hospital architects, planners, biomedical engineers, scientific experts and key figures in the medical device industry for learning, exchanging ideas and networking.
Prof. Dr. Clemens Bulitta, Director of the Institute of Medical Engineering Technical University of Applied Sciences, Amberg-Weiden was the chair of the forum. “International leaders from the field of clinical engineering shared their thoughts and expertise. It was my pleasure to put the scientific program in place together with Maquet,” Prof. Bulitta commented. “I have enjoyed walking the expert audience through two great half days with a mix of visionary and best practice presentations from various countries.”
The main program featured the following topics:
- Project management & financial trends
- Trends in the intensive care environment
- Hygienic aspects in the hospital
- Case studies from hospital build projects

Ireland who gave insights about the building information modeling related to the healthcare sector. “There was a truly great mix of speakers from research, engineering and clinical fields; I’ll definitely look to get back next year.”
Attendees came from across Western Europe, Middle East and Africa. Dr. Matteo Moro from the Medical Directory of the San Raffaele Hospital from Milano, Italy, was impressed with the format. “I liked the well-structured forum, with topics very up-to-date and innovative,” he explained. “Sharing actual experiences is always precious for people involved in the hospital build sector, especially if technologically complex as operating theatres or ICU. The event was a great place and I would definitely recommend coming back next year.”
"MHEF was extremely well organized with a healthy mixture of academic research, professional networking, lessons learnt, and new, cutting-edge technologies," complimented Christer Sfeir, General Manager of Midroc Project Management Ltd. in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
