Nellix® Endovascular Aneurysm Sealing (EVAS) System now has entry in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods

2016-04-26

Getinge Group Australia is pleased to announce that the Nellix® Endovascular Aneurysm Sealing System now has entry in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods:
ARTG number 271832 and 271833 as well as inclusion into the Prostheses List for February 2016: Rebate Code: MQ036 and MQ037

The Nellix® EVAS System is a novel, catheter-based aneurysm sealing technology that consists of dual balloon-expandable covered stents with attached Polymer-filled Endobags. The Nellix® System has the potential to simplify AAA procedures, treat a broad range of patients and improve clinical outcomes.  For the first time, this new generation of AAA repair allows complete sealing of the aneurysm sac with the potential to virtually eliminate subsequent leaks into the aneurysm.

In the Nellix® procedure, two stent grafts, each having an attached bag, are inserted through small openings in the groin and advanced into the aorta.  A medical grade polymer material is injected into the bags where it fills the entire aneurysmal space and becomes solid within minutes.  Blood then flows through the stent grafts rather than the weakened aneurysmal part of the aorta. By filling the aneurysm sac the potential for leaks and aneurysm growth is minimised.

Getinge Group Australia has entered into an agreement to be the exclusive distributor of the Endologix, Inc. Nellix® EndoVascular Aneurysm Sealing (EVAS) System in Australia. So far over 30 cases have been performed through the ARTG special access scheme, but now that Nellix has entered the ARTG, it will be accessible throughout Australia.
