Listen to the experts discuss on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in interventional cardiology.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in interventional cardiology

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is a serious option in the cathlab that might help many patients to survive. This session gives insights on basic extracorporeal membrane oxygenation-support in cardiogenic shock and informs about new and future approaches of extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation.

The chairmen were A. Combes and N. Kapur. The four talks by N. Kapur, J. Belohlavek, C. Hengstenberg and D. Lunz were about basic extracorporeal membrane oxygenation approaches for interventional cardiology, the difficulty to choose the right device and technique for different patients and indications (Impella, IABC and / or ECLS), and contraindications and risks of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in the cardiological patient.
